Mayor's statement following the death of Her Majesty The Queen
Friday 9 September: It is with great sadness that Hillingdon Council learned of the death of Her Majesty The Queen yesterday (Thursday 8 September), and our sadness is shared by residents and employees across the borough.
We are truly grateful to Her Majesty The Queen for her 70-year reign as Sovereign, and the Union Flag is flying at half-mast at the Civic Centre and Battle of Britain Bunker Exhibition and Visitor Centre in Uxbridge and at the Polish Air Force Memorial in Ruislip, to honour and remember our longest-reigning monarch.
During this period of national mourning, members of the public are invited to pay their respects in Hillingdon. There will be a designated area on the forecourt of the Civic Centre in Uxbridge for floral tributes from Monday morning (12 September) and a Book of Condolence will also be opened at 9.30am in the reception area of the Civic Centre, and be available weekdays between 9am and 6pm.
I will be delivering a proclamation reading to formally announce the new Sovereign on Sunday 11 September at 4pm on the steps of the Civic Centre, and residents are invited to attend.
As a mark of respect, all council meetings and events will be cancelled.
