We provide pre-planning application advice for anyone considering proposals that may require planning permission.
To make a request for pre-application advice please submit the correct form, supporting plans/details and pay the relevant fee for this service (if applicable). Links to the appropriate form, fee schedule and general guidance can be found on the right hand side of this web page.
Why seek pre-application advice for developments
Developers are encouraged to seek pre-application advice from the Planning Team before submitting applications. The service is designed to make you aware of any likely issues that may affect the outcome of your development proposals, to seek to ensure a positive recommendation to a scheme but also to deter applications that have little or no prospect of success. The advice benefits the applicant by speeding up the development process and minimising the costs of submitting subsequent or unacceptable applications.
Pre-application advice service
The pre-application advice service is subject to charging, depending on the nature of the application. To ensure the applicant receives the highest standard of service, the cost will be recovered directly by the Council and not by the taxpayer.
We offer seven levels of pre application service which depend upon the scale type and complexity of the proposed development and the associated town planning issues.
You will need to complete and submit the request form to us and clearly identify which service you are seeking (based on the Councils Charging Schedule).
General planning advice
If you would like general advice or help with filling in planning application forms, then please make an appointment to visit the Duty Planner.
Appointments are necessary and are held between:
- Monday to Friday - 09:00 to 17:00
- Thursday - 09:00 to 19:30

Telephone enquiries can be made between 08:00 and 18:00 Monday to Friday. If advice cannot be provided immediately, a return call will be made by the end of the next working day.
