Paying Local Housing Allowance direct to landlords.

Lots of houses

Some people may have difficulty getting the Local Housing Allowance (LHA) and paying their rent.

Payments of LHA should be made direct to a landlord where a tenant is 8 weeks or more in arrears with their rent.

Payments of LHA could be made direct to a landlord if

  • the landlord has reduced the rent to an affordable level, or
  • we consider a tenant is unlikely to pay their rent to their landlord, or
  • we think a tenant cannot manage their own financial affair
