Rats and mice treatments

View our rats, mice and wasps charges for treatments.

Our pest control service is provided by SDK Environmental Ltd (trading as Dial A Pest). This service is for residents in Hillingdon that have problems with rats and mice relating to their property ie inside their house or in their garden. Please note we do not treat rats and mice in neighbouring properties or on private land.

We also provide treatment for wasps to council tenants and leaseholders though charges may apply.

During rodent treatments, residents may be advised by SDK technicians to take a number of practical measures to deal with the infestation inside and outside their properties.

Note: All residents over 65 are eligible for free rat and mice treatment.

Appointments

We operate Monday to Friday, 8am to 6pm. Unfortunately we cannot give more specific appointment therefore householders will need to stay in between these times.

Treatment for rats and mice normally require three visits. The first date will be booked by our Contact Centre. Your details will be passed over to SDK who will contact you within 24 hours to confirm your first appointment and book further appointments. They will also issue you with our terms and conditions for the service.  The visits are usually at least 10 days apart.

Once the booking has taken place it is the resident's responsibility to phone us if they need to cancel or rearrange the appointment.

A charge of £15 will be made where we are unable to access your property on the day of your appointment.

Poisons

The poisons used are designed to minimise risk to humans, pets and other non target species. Rodents need to feed regularly on the bait for the poison to be effective.

Hazards

Keep children and pets away from treated areas. Pesticides should not be put in or near the mouth but in case of accidental swallowing seek medical help immediately.

Access to food

It is important that there are no other food sources nearby otherwise rats and mice will not feed on the poison. Keep food in properly sealed containers with tight fitting lids and clean up any spillages immediately. Where possible store food in cupboards or the fridge.

Food attracts rats and it is important that food is not left out to feed wildlife ie birds and squirrels. Refuse bins must have tight fitting lids.

Dead rats/mice

Any dead vermin will be collected by SDK technicians during their visit as long as they can easily access them. At other times bodies can be picked up by the householder, double wrapped in plastic bags and placed in the ordinary waste bin (not the recycling bin). Protective gloves should be worn and disposed of afterwards.

Rodents require nesting material so it is important that rubbish is cleared from gardens. The Antisocial Behaviour Investigations team deal with complaints of rubbish/food waste which may attract vermin.

Other type of pests

The council also provides treatment free of charge for council tenants only for the following:

  • cockroach
  • garden ants
  • beetles
  • woodworm
  • pharaoh ants
  • squirrels
  • mortar bees
  • pigeon proofing
