Safety certificate for a sports ground

If you operate a sports ground in Hillingdon that holds more than 10,000 spectators, or up to 5,000 spectators in respect of sports grounds at which association football matches are played, you may be required to hold a safety certificate.

A safety certificate may be either:

  • a general safety certificate issued for the use of a sports ground for a specified activity, or activities, during an indefinite period
  • a special safety certificate for the use of a sports ground for a specified activity or activities on a specified occasion or occasions

Safety certificates are issued by London Borough of Hillingdon Council for grounds in Hillingdon and may contain such terms and conditions as we consider necessary or expedient to secure spectator safety at the sports ground, for example:

  • management requirements
  • first aid provision
  • strength of structural elements
