Our courses are mapped to the National Language Ladder, designed to endorse achievement in language skills at all levels of competence for all ages in a wide range of languages. The Languages Ladder assesses competence and maps progress in the skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing.
If you are unsure about your language level, please self-assess yourself using the Guide to Level chart [242kb] .

Missed the September start and you are a complete beginner?

Not a problem, we have fast-track courses starting in January in Spanish and French, for beginners only.

Employment possibilities

Make your CV stand out and get a qualification in British Sign Language or Community Interpreting. These language skills are essential to break down barriers of communication with Deaf people or people who do not speak English. With further studies they can put you on the ladder of employment.

Community interpreting courses

Ever thought of using your language skills and offer interpreting for other people in your own community? This course could be the start of a new career. For people who speak a native foreign language and have a good level of English as their second language. As a community interpreter you may provide equality of opportunity in your own community and help people, with limited English language skills, get access to main public services.

Introduction to Community Interpreting course will this year be offered in the heart of the community, in partnership with other Hillingdon organisations. If you already have some experience in Community Interpreting, have a good level of English, good organisational and study skills you may be able to start on a level 3 qualification.  Call any of our centres for more information and for assessment dates.

British Sign Language

Our popular British Sign Language (BSL) level 1qualification courses is changing

The BSL introduction course will start from November 2017 for 6 weeks, studying towards a unit certificate. Learners wishing to get the full level 1 qualification will be able to progress and study on the BSL conversation course, for 16 weeks,  starting in January 2018. If you miss the September start, we have an additional BSL introduction course starting in January 2018 for 6 weeks, and learners wishing to get the full level 1 qualification will be able to progress and study on the BSL conversation courses (16 weeks) starting in February 2018.

Are you an Employer?

Recent studies report that employees who speak another language can be more flexible at work, more productive and creative. Equipping your staff with foreign language skills could also help your company grow and improve your client relationships. We can deliver bespoke Language training for your specific needs.

Foreign film screenings

We like to celebrate languages at adult learning with screenings of European films with English subtitles. This year we will have film screenings in Spanish, French, Italian and German. These are free to Hillingdon residents and existing learners but we suggest you book your place in advance. See our course brochure for dates, times, venue.
