RAGC ALW

Hillingdon Adult and Community Learning recognises the importance of children and their parents/carers learning together. We offer a number of family learning courses to support the needs of your family's learning. All our courses are designed and delivered to encourage children, parents, carers, grandparents and extended family members to learn new skills together and to show all generations how learning together can be fun and beneficial.

Our courses offer a range from inter-generational (with the children) to adult only sessions. You can develop your own skills as well as supporting your children's learning, in a fun and relaxed environment. All the courses are run by qualified tutors within local schools, children centres and community settings across the London Borough of Hillingdon.

Our provision

We offer two types of provision and both are fully funded.

  • FEML - Family, English, Maths and Language courses designed to equip parents/carers with the skills to support children through their Early Years, Key Stage 1 and Key stage 2 curriculums as well as developing personal skills. Preparation for work courses designed to remove barriers into employment and to help you develop and reach your full potential in seeking employment. These are primarily adult focused programmes of learning; some of which result in achieving a nationally recognised qualification.

  • WFL - Wider Family Learning courses are intergenerational (with the children) programmes of learning, whereby immediate and wider family are encouraged to learn together. We offer a variety of activities across many areas. This year we delivered: recycling to make books, Diwali Divas, Potty about pottery, Christmas crafts and pond dipping to name a few.

Bespoke programmes  Pottery

We devised a clay and pottery based programme, which saw children and parents learning together to create pottery pieces for the school's sensory garden. The course brought parents and children together to develop their literacy, numeracy and science and craft skills. Parents learnt the benefits and impact of craft based activities and how to incorporate them into everyday family life, while children of 'the swipe generation' were able to use their hands in play and learning.

Removing Barriers to Work:

This six week course looks at the barriers to employment and provides suggestions and support to break these barriers. Together with your tutor you will identify the core strengths, skills and experience you have gained in your life and build awareness of how these can be translated and used in further learning and/or successful employment including self-employment.

Please ask at your local school, children's centre, library or community setting.

If you work at a school, children's centre, library or other community setting and would like to offer any of these to your clients, please contact 0208 569 1613.
