Governance and data

The council collects and monitors data about our residents and employees, and we have strong governance arrangements in place to achieve our equality objectives.

The Cabinet Member with the portfolio for Performance, Partnerships and Community Safety has overall responsibility for the direction and scrutiny of the equalities agenda. They receive regular updates from the Head of Policy, Performance and Partnerships.

The Corporate Management Team is briefed by the lead officer for equalities on a quarterly basis. They are responsible for agreeing the strategic approach to how we will meet our compliance under the Equality Act 2010 Public Sector Equality Duty.

Equalities work is embedded within our performance management framework. We hold quarterly meetings, chaired by the lead officer responsible for the equality agenda, with representatives from key service areas including HR, procurement, commissioning and education. This group supports the operational work needed to meet our compliance under the Equality Act 2010 Public Sector Equality Duty.

Data and intelligence helps us to make decisions about the services we provide to our residents and allows us to monitor representation of our staff against equality characteristics. Services collect data and information about customers and their needs, and this is used to identify improvement action as part of service planning.
