Human resources and learning and development

The council is committed to providing a structured framework and high quality advice to meet current and future business needs, support employees to develop and address skill shortages.

Human Resources

As an employer we are committed to treating all employees (and applicants for employment), fairly and on merit, and to the development and implementation of employment policies, procedures and practices that do not discriminate unlawfully on the grounds of the protected characteristics as outlined in the Equality Act 2010.

An annual workforce monitoring report that publishes a detailed profile of the council's 2015-16 workforce (and prospective workforce) by race, age, sex and disability,  . Data from this report will be used, where appropriate, to further improve employment, recruitment and management policies and practices, in order to maintain a balanced workforce which is representative of the residents we serve.

We provide a range of benefits for our staff including recognition awards for those who have shown outstanding commitment to their work, free, confidential, independent 24 hour counselling and legal advice line.

Learning and development

Learning and Development Service (L&D) works with operational managers across the organisation to ensure the workforce of London Borough of Hillingdon has the necessary skills, knowledge and behaviours to deliver the council's priorities.

We take a bespoke approach to equality training, designing and delivering courses that meet individual service needs.

All new staff are required to complete an online introduction to Equality and Diversity. This course is also available to all staff who would like a refresher.

Ongoing support is provided to managers to complete Impact Assessments or for general equality advice and guidance.

Positive about disability

Hillingdon has been awarded Disability Confident Employer status to recognise the council's commitment to fair recruitment, training, retention, consultation for people with disabilities and to increase disability awareness.
