Parents with children in their last year of primary school (year 6) are being advised by the council's school admissions team to apply now for a secondary school place for a better chance of getting their preferred choice.
News release: 18 September 2012
In order to secure a school place for September 2013, parents are encouraged to apply for more than one school and they should consider local schools as well as others further away.
Parents are also invited to go along to local secondary school open evenings to hear a talk by the head teacher, meet the teaching staff, take a tour of the school and meet current pupils.
Applications for secondary school places should be submitted online at www.hillingdon.gov.uk/schools by 31st October. A late application may result in a child not being offered a place even if they live close to the school or have an older sibling already attending.
Jean Palmer, Deputy Chief Executive and Corporate Director of Planning, Environment, Education & Communities said:
"Choosing a secondary school for your child is one of the most important decisions you'll ever make for their education. We encourage all parents to go along to the open evenings so they can decide which school will suit their child best.
School places fill quickly so we are advise all parents to make sure that they submit their applications by the 31st of October, and to apply to more than one school to give them a better chance of getting one that they want."
