Harefield pupils celebrate new classrooms!

Harefield Junior School expands thanks to Hillingdon's ambitious school buildings programme.

News release: 13 June 2013

Pupils at Harefield Junior are celebrating the addition of two new classrooms at the school.

The building works are part of the council's ambitious school buildings programme, which will ensure every child in the area has a classroom to go to in September.

In order to meet the demand for local school places, Harefield Junior school will be expanding in September from a two-form entry school to a three-form, and will have enough places for 360 pupils.

The work was completed ahead of schedule and the two new classrooms will provide an extra 60 school places, which are much needed by families in the local area.

Additional facilities included in the building works include resurfacing of the school playground, new cloakroom and WC facilities, additional storage space and a meeting room.

Hillingdon is investing almost £150m in new primary school places, providing new classrooms and building new schools to ensure all school children have a school place near their home.

Between 2011 and September 2014, the council will have expanded a total of 23 schools permanently and a further two schools temporarily to accommodate increasing numbers of children.  With two brand new purpose built primary schools set to open in the autumn of 2014, the council will have delivered over 5500 extra school places in just three years.

Paul Dodd, Head teacher of Harefield Junior School said: "This is an excellent facility and will be a great benefit to our community."

Cllr David Simmonds, Cabinet Member for Education and Children's Services, said: "We are firmly putting families first by ensuring we continue to plan effectively for the rise in demand for school places. These new facilities will ensure that children in Harefield have access to the education they deserve."
