Charville Primary School

Charville Primary School in Hayes, has made innovative use of old girls' and boys' toilet blocks and converted them into bright and airy new reception classes, linked by a lofty canopy, and providing access to the main playground through fencing painted in primary colours.

The canopy provides cover for outdoor play, protecting the children from the elements on duller days, as well as shielding them from the sun.

Head teacher, Peter Shawley says, "The new classrooms provide a quality environment for our youngest children in the Early Years Foundation Stage, supporting a quality learning process for these children."

The 630-pupil three form entry school was temporarily expanded to accommodate a fourth reception year class in September 2012.  This additional class will work its way through the school all the way to year six, when the pupils go on to secondary school.
