Purchase a bike scheme

Room for a bike in your life?

We're giving anyone who lives, works or studies in Hillingdon the opportunity to put cycling in their lives. Ever wondered if cycling's for you but don't want to risk buying a bike?  Hillingdon provide a Cycle Loan Scheme where you can borrow one.

There is no limit on use. We want you to use it as much as possible and wherever possible to experience how cycling can fit into your lifestyle.

Use it for commuting, shopping and getting out and about with friends and family. The bike will be yours for four weeks; all you need to do is collect it, then return it to a central location and store it at home when you are not using it.

Cycling benefits

  • Cycling is not only good for your health but it can also save money (not petrol or bus passes) and time (less being stuck in traffic).
  • The bikes are hybrids so ideal for on and off the road.

Bike types

We have a range of hybrids for men and women in various sizes. The bikes are suitable for riding on roads and firm tracks, for commuting and leisure.

£30 for four weeks (includes helmet, lock, hi-vis).

Note: The loan is for four weeks only and it is likely that other participants will be waiting to use your bike, so the four week period can not be extended.

All we ask in return is feedback to a few short questions at the end of the four weeks.  At the end of the four weeks if you loved your bike and can't live without it - we'll give you the opportunity to buy it at cost price.

What happens next

You will then be contacted by the Recycle-a-Bike and added to the waiting list.  Once you're at the top of the list Recycle-a-Bike will contact you with information to collect the bike. Take along some ID, your £30 and cycle away.

ID required:

  • Photographic ID: a passport, driver's licence, work place or student ID.
  • Proof of address: for example a council tax or utilities bill.

At the end of the month, bring the bike back and if you want, buy it at a reduced price.

If the bike is stolen or damaged

If your bike is stolen, you need to contact the police immediately to obtain a crime reference number. You should then contact us as soon as possible with the details. Depending on the circumstances, we will let you know whether we can lend you another bike.

If your bike is damaged you should contact us immediately to discuss the damage and whether the bike can or should still be used.

Buying your bike

This option is available - speak with Recycle-a-Bike directly.

We are also offering FREE Adult Cycle Training and you can take part in our Led Ride Programme so whether you're a complete beginner or just want some tips to get you back on the road, you'll find help and support.
