How to apply for a Blue Badge

Information on how to apply/renew a Blue badge and what happens when you are refused or have your badge withdrawn, it's stolen or it's been misused.

Ways to pay

Applicants can pay by cheque or postal order made payable to the London Borough of Hillingdon.

Photographs

The Blue Badge is a two-sided card with space for a photograph of the badge holder on the back of the card.  Your application should, therefore, be accompanied by one recent photograph, which you should sign on the back.  You may send a passport-type photograph taken from self-service booths or any suitable photograph cut down to a passport photo size.

Proof of medical condition

If you do not meet the automatic criteria and are applying under discretionary criteria,  please provide any supporting evidence you have regarding your medical condition, such as repeat prescriptions, or copies of any letters from your GP/hospital/consultant regarding your diagnosis.

Refusal

A refusal by Hillingdon Council to issue a Blue Badge will be accompanied by a statement outlining the reasons for refusal and an explanation of the reviewing process.

Hillingdon will adopt a uniform review system as follows:

  • an initial right to request the local authority to review the grounds of refusal
  • a subsequent right of appeal to the Local Government Ombudsman if the applicant believes that the local authority has not followed the due process correctly

Withdrawal

Persistent loss of a badge may require the removal/withdrawal of entitlement to this permit. Since 1 January 2012, badges nationwide are issued from a central office.

Lost/stolen

Replacement badges will be issued with a new serial number and dispatched centrally.

Renewal

Renewal reminders are issued automatically four to six weeks before expiry and you should apply as soon as you receive it to ensure applications can be processed before the old badge expires. If you haven't received a renewal reminder and your badge is due to expire in the next four weeks, please apply online or contact us on 01895 556633.

Misuse

Hillingdon Council recognises that some people will intentionally or unintentionally misuse Blue Badges in a variety of ways. Misuse allegations may result in the withdrawal of the badge or prosecution following our investigations.
