Councillor George Cooper

His wife Councillor Judith Cooper was the Mayoress. His Deputy Mayor was Councillor John Hensley and his wife, Mrs Diane Hensley was the Deputy Mayoress.

Cllr George Cooper has lived in what is now the London Borough of Hillingdon all his life, the majority of that time in Uxbridge.  He also spent five very happy years living in Hayes.

He was first elected as a councillor in May 1990 representing the North Uxbridge Ward, a ward in which he lived as a small child. He has served as an Uxbridge North Councillor continually since then.

During his time as a councillor he has served on many committees, Social Services, Education, Audits and Planning to name but a few. He also served as Deputy Whip of the Majority Party and subsequently as Chief Whip for 11 years before becoming Deputy Mayor.

He currently serves as a Governor of St Mary's Catholic Primary School, which he has done for many years, much of that time chairing the Finance Committee.

He is a Trustee of Groundwork South and Fassnidge Memorial Trusts. He also serves on the Hoenigsberg Memorial Trust, Yeading Valley Working Party, Colne Valley Park CIC and is a reserve member of the Heathrow Airport Consultative Committee.

He and his wife Judith share a great interest in music, history and archaeology. Judith is also a councillor representing Uxbridge South, the ward in which they have lived for the past 40 years.

During their year, the mayor's charity appeal, which raised £102,000 supported:

  • Hillingdon South Society for Mentally Handicapped Children (MENCAP)
  • Uxbridge Child Contact Centre
  • Hillingdon Brain Tumour and Injury Group
  • Hillingdon Autistic Care and Support (HACS)
  • Life Education Centres Hillingdon Ltd
