Yiewsley and West Drayton improvements - what's happened so far

Improving the look and feel of Yiewsley and West Drayton.

Major Schemes Project

In 2013/14, the Council successfully completed the final element of its first TfL funded Major Town Centre Scheme in Yiewsley and West Drayton, a project which delivered £2.4 million worth of major investment in High Street Yiewsley and Station Road West Drayton.

The Yiewsley & West Drayton Town Centre scheme covered the area between the junction of Falling Lane and High Street Yiewsley at its northern extent and the junction of Swan Road and Station Road West Drayton at its southern end. This scheme spanned across two Wards (Yiewsley and West Drayton) and the site of West Drayton rail station lies right at the centre of the project.

What improvements have been made?

Improvements completed in Station Road and Yiewsley High Street include:

  • new paving - between Falling Lane and Swan Road
  • road resurfacing - including raised tables
  • landscaping - Piazza areas with new seating, trees and less street clutter
  • stop & Shop parking scheme
  • legible London signage
  • grand Union Canal bridge feature

Improvements to come:

In early 2014, it was announced that TfL and Crossrail would set aside a sum of £30 million for improving the urban realm around the outer-London surface-level rail stations, and bids were invited.

The council submitted a bid to the 'Crossrail Complementary Measures' fund for West Drayton, and in November the council received notification from TfL that it had been awarded a sum of £1.6 million to improve the area around the station. This is primarily for the surfaces and associated amenities in Station Approach; the Grand Union Canal; and the frontage in Warwick Road, which is on the southern side of the railway.

As of January 2015, a joint working group is in the process of being set up by TfL and Crossrail to work with interested parties and the council will take an active part in the development and refinement of the proposals for West Drayton.
