Information for parents

From September 2017, working families will be able to access up to 30 hours free childcare in Hillingdon.

What is 30 hours free childcare?

30 hours free childcare is available for families where both parents are in work. All three and four year olds can receive 15 hours of free childcare from the term after their third birthday. Three and four year children of working families can receive up to an additional 15 hours of free childcare.

Will I be eligible for 30 hours free childcare?

In order to check if you would qualify for 30 hours free childcare, you should visit the Childcare Service website. This website will explain the criteria and how you check your eligibility. The HMRC will assess your circumstances to confirm if you are eligible for the additional 15 free hours of childcare.

What happens if I get an eligibility code?

If you get an eligibility code to confirm you can receive 30 hours free childcare, you would need to take this code to a childcare provider to access the extended free childcare. The childcare setting will ask you to complete an agreement form, proving details such as your child's name, date of birth and your National Insurance Number. The childcare setting will check these details with the local authority and if accurate, free childcare can be provided.

Once I get the eligibility code, when I can start accessing up to 30 hours free childcare for my child?

You can access 15 hours free childcare from the term after your child's third birthday. If you qualify for the additional 15 free hours of childcare, these can be accessed from the term after you receive an eligibility code from the HMRC. For example if  HMRC confirms in June that you are eligible, your child can receive up to 30 hours free childcare from September, the beginning of the next term.

If I am eligible for 30 hours free childcare for my child, will I keep this entitlement while they are three or four years old?

Once eligible, you need to reconfirm your information with the HMRC every three months. If you do not reconfirm or if your circumstances change, you may lose your entitlement to the additional free childcare hours.
