About the expert

Henry Jeffreys is a respected journalist, wine and drinks critic and public speaker, who regularly contributes to the Guardian, Spectator, the Lady, the Oldie and Radio 4, amongst others, on the subjects of books, drink and popular culture.

He is currently contributing as a wine critic for the BBC Good Food Wine Club in collaboration with wine merchants Laithwaites. He is also currently appearing on the judging panel for the BBC Food And Farming Awards 2017.

Henry worked in the wine trade for two years before moving into publishing. As a publicist, he has worked with the novelist David Mitchell, the restaurateur Russell Norman and most recently with Marlon James, winner of the 2015 Man Booker prize. His most recent book Empire of Booze, published to great critical acclaim, explores the history of Britain via a penchant for alcoholic drinks.
