Woodland rangers

Volunteer as a woodland ranger at Ruislip Woods.

Ruislip Woods

Hillingdon Council is dedicated to protecting the Ruislip Woods National Nature Reserve for future generations. The woods cover an area of 726 acres and are the largest area of ancient woodland in Greater London.

Volunteers are one of our most valuable resources. The time individuals can spare no matter how little, enables us to achieve far more than could otherwise be managed. Volunteer work as a Woodland Ranger offers the chance to put your skills and strengths to good use. You will also have the opportunity to broaden your knowledge, learn new skills and make new friends.

What can you do to help?

Practical work

woods_practical There is always conservation work to be carried out in the Woods such as coppicing, scrub and pond clearance, bridge and footpath building.

Surveying

We need to survey and monitor various things in the Woods such as bird, reptile, mammal and invertebrate populations, footpaths and waterways. Help is needed all year round.

Woodland centre

woodswildlife Our office, based at the Lido is often unmanned and closed to the public. Help is needed to keep the office open and to carry out general admin duties.

Marketing and publicising

You could help with the Woods' public profile by taking displays to schools or libraries, provide photos for displays or helping with events.
