Through the new agreement, thousands of the council's social housing properties will be hooked up to Hyperoptic's full fibre connections, ensuring everyone has access to fast, reliable internet.

The new partnership is the latest step by the council in addressing digital inequality to bring the best-possible connections for residents and businesses as more and more people rely on digital services for their day-to-day activities.

Work on the digital rollout is scheduled to begin in the north of the borough with hundreds of homes earmarked for the upgrade.

Cllr Douglas Mills, Hillingdon Council's Cabinet Member for Corporate Services, said: "Our new partnership with Hyperoptic is another step forward in our ambition to make Hillingdon among the capital's best-connected boroughs.

"We're committed to working with willing partners to provide the best possible connections for residents.

"As more and more day-to-day services are delivered digitally, it's vital we make available to residents the fastest, best connectivity, which will enable them to flourish."

Hyperoptic's social tariffs include a 'Fair Fibre Plan,' which enables people on specific means-tested benefits to get access to discounted rates on its monthly rolling packages.

James Prowse, Hyperoptic's Regional Manager, Social Housing, said: "Fast and reliable broadband has never been more important.

"It's a utility that everyone needs to effectively work, learn and socialise from home. We are committed to bringing an end to digital poverty and giving everyone the opportunity to benefit from the 'full fibre' difference.

"Councils have a really important role to play in enabling us to realise this vision and we thank Hillingdon Council for making this rollout possible."
