Litter Campaign Summary
Details of enforcement and education actions September - November 2009
Officers of the Street Scene Enforcement Team were involved in a wide range of
activites [49kb], initially being education and engagement, then followed by enforcement.
Education Actions
- Fast food outlets were visited by officers in West Ruislip, Manor, Cavendish, South Ruislip, Charville, Barnhill, Yeading, Botwell, Townfield ward. Outlets were provided with information relating to voluntary Code of Practice for reducing litter from 'food on the go'.
- Uxbridge College campus (
Hayes [58kb] &
Uxbridge [4Mb]) and Brunel University were visited to promote the Litter Campaign. - Provided free portable ashtrays for residents and campaign posters to One Stop Shop, Leisure Centres, Libraries and the Civic Centre.
- Litter Campaign was promoted at all Street Champions meetings.
'Golden Envelope Awards' [2Mb]: Chimes gift vouchers were given away by Cllr Sandra Jenkins, Cabinet Member for Environment, to members of the public for using a street bins in Uxbridge, Yiewsley, Hayes and Ruislip.
Enforcement Actions
- One resident was prosecuted and convicted with a £350 fine and £502 costs for littering in Hillingdon.
- 2 Prosecutions have been instigated for not providing information related to littering offences. These resulted in £300 & £554 fines and £65 & £115 costs.
- 6 Verbal warnings issued by Street Scene Enforcement Officers & Police.
- 24 Fixed Penalty Notices were served by Street Scene Enforcement Officers, 22 of which have been paid and 2 prosecutions have been instigated (December 2009).
- Parks Patrol Officers issued 7 verbal warnings for dog fouling litter offences in parks across the Borough.
