Hillingdon Council wins war on waste as fly-tipper is jailed
Two brothers have been brought to court by Hillingdon Council for fly-tipping more than 10 tonnes of household and builders waste across the borough.
Leslie Price, 42, was jailed for 12 months for each of his 12 offences, to run concurrently, at Isleworth Crown Court on Tuesday, 1 June 2010.
Leslie, of Somerset Road, West Ealing, was also given a five-year anti-social behaviour order (ASBO), banning him from operating as a waste carrier unless he holds an appropriate licence granted by the Environment Agency. The offences took place across London, with a quarter of these in Hayes.
His brother Leonard, 43, from Birmingham, was given a community service order to carry out 200 hours of unpaid work over the next two years for five fly-tipping offences, three of which were in Hillingdon.
Councillor Sandra Jenkins, Cabinet Member for Environment, said: "This is a great result, I am glad to see the law has caught up with them and they have been dealt with accordingly. These men blighted the borough with their rubbish without a second thought for residents. They have shown a total disregard for the environment and now they must face up to what they have done. Our enforcement team worked very hard to make sure these men were brought to justice and their persistence has paid off."
The pair had previously pleaded guilty to the offences that took place in the borough at Uxbridge Magistrates' Court earlier this year. They were caught on CCTV cameras dumping the waste in Bolingbroke Way and Bullsbrook Road, Hayes, in September and November 2009.
