Domestic violence can affect people from all walks of life and background – domestic violence occurs regardless of age, social class, race, sexuality, religion, ethnic group or education. It can exist in any relationship inside or outside the home – with partners, parents or other relatives. It is important to remember that it is not your fault. You are entitled to live your life free from fear.
There are three important steps to take if you are in an abusive relationship:
- Recognise that it is happening to you;
- Accept that you are not to blame; and
- Get help and support.
If you would like advice about being safe while remaining in your home. The Borough of Hillingdon operates a Sanctuary scheme. For more information please call the police community safety team on 020 8246 1766.
