Statement of Accounts

Background of the authority's financial position.

All local authorities have to publish accounts in a form specified by Government regulation. They show in broad summary the sources of finance and the services on which it has been spent.

Hillingdon produces two documents; the formal Statement of Accounts which is set out in the form required by Accounts and Audit Regulations and Summary Accounts, and a less complex document produced for local residents which is included in Hillingdon People, the Council's quarterly magazine.

The accounts have to be produced and approved by a committee of the Council by 30 June each year for the financial year ending the previous 31 March. Once approved by the Council's Audit Committee they are placed on the Council's website and in hard copy format at various public buildings such as the Council Offices in Uxbridge and local libraries.

Every year the accounts are open for inspection by the public prior to the completion of audit for a period of 20 working days. Local electors can inspect them and ask questions. Details of the open days for inspection are advertised in local press two weeks before the first 'open' day. Full details of this process are set out below at 'Audit Commission, Council's Accounts – Your Rights'.

External Audit is undertaken at Hillingdon by Deloitte.

This information is also available in large print, Braille and on audio tape.
