Sexual health

Sexual health remains a strategic priority at both a national and London region level. Within London region sexual health is a key focus for prevention

sexual health

"Sexual health is a state of physical, mental and social well-being in relation to sexuality. It requires a positive and respectful approach to sexuality and sexual relationships, as well as the possibility of having pleasurable and safe sexual experiences, free of coercion, discrimination and violence." (World Health Organisation)

Sexual health represents a key component of our identity as human beings and includes:

  • sexually transmitted infections and HIV
  • contraception
  • conceptions
  • abortion

It is important to acknowledge that the sexual wellbeing of the population is equally important. It is not merely the absence of disease, dysfunction or illness, but is a state of physical, emotional, mental and social wellbeing related to sexuality.
