News release: 11 March 2013

The concert celebrated the partnership, recently announced by Hillingdon Council, between the Central Band and Hillingdon Music Education Hub.
The RAF and the Music Service are currently developing a range of initiatives including visits to the Band HQ at RAF Northolt, work experience opportunities and further professional support for the Saturday Music Centre. The Central Band is already working with students in Hillingdon and will be working closely with the council to expand their programme of activities.
The Music Centre is held every Saturday morning during term time using the excellent facilities at Uxbridge High School, who themselves are a partner in the Music Hub. Around 300 children from across the borough attend each week and tuition ranges from individual lessons to choral and ensemble work.
Cllr David Simmonds, Cabinet Member for Children and Education Services, said:
"We are delighted that the Central Band was able to visit our Music Centre and perform a concert for our children and parents. The concert will undoubtedly inspire our students and shows what can be achieved through a combination of enthusiasm, talent and dedication.
"This is a brilliant example of the Armed Forces Community Covenant in action. We look forward to working with the RAF Central band in the future to enhance music education in the borough".
RAF, Wing Commander Duncan Stubbs, said:
"We were delighted to perform this special concert for the Borough's music students. Hopefully we have been able to inspire the students at all levels but ultimately music is all about having fun".
