Changes to Disability Living Allowance

Personal Independence Payment (PIP) was introduced to replace Disability Living Allowance (DLA) from April 2013.

Adults with Learning Difficulties and/or Disabilities

In the Hillingdon area, new claims for PIP can be made to Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) from 10 June 2013.

From October 2013 the re assessment phase began for people who report a change in their condition or reach the end of a fixed period of DLA. Young people turning 16 are included from this date.

It is expected that between October 2015 and October 2017 all remaining people on DLA will be reassessed for PIP.

PIP is based on an assessment of individual need and will affect everyone aged 16 to 64 even if they have an indefinite period award.  There are no current plans to replace DLA for children under 16 and people aged 65 and over who are already receiving DLA.
