Meet the Mayor of Hillingdon

Councillor Carol Melvin has been elected Mayor of Hillingdon 2017 to 2018 and her husband Andrew Melvin is her Consort.

Cllr Carol Melvin

Her Deputy Mayor is Councillor John Morgan and his wife Fiona is Deputy Mayoress together with Mrs Pauline Bianco, Deputy Mayor's Escort.

Cllr Carol Melvin is married to Andrew and they have two daughters both happily married, they have two grandsons aged 33 years and 8 years and two great grandsons aged 5 years and 18 months.

Her early married life was spent travelling with her husband who was an army bandmaster. When Andrew retired, after serving 22 years, they moved to London and settled in Northwood.

She takes a real interest in the local community. And as a committed Christian, she is an active member of Emmanuel Church Northwood, is on the prayer ministry team and a volunteer on the reception desk. This is a very important part of her life.

She has always had a particular interest in local politics, and joined the Ruislip Northwood Conservative Association shortly after coming to Northwood. She served on the Northwood Ladies Conservative Branch Committee and when it amalgamated with the main Northwood branch she continued to serve, eventually becoming its chairman in 2003 and serving in this post for 12 years.

After retiring in 2002 from her full time employment as a Senior Credit Controller for Elida Faberge, a Unilever Company, Cllr Carol Melvin went on to complete a Bachelor of Science (Honours) degree in Social Science with Social Policy and a Diploma in Criminology with the Open University.

From 2002 to 2008 she worked as one of the volunteer station reception officers in the Northwood police station, and still serves on the Northwood Ward Police Panel, liasing with the Neighbourhood Police on issues raised by the Northwood residents. She is also a member of 'Community Voice' an organisation that helps to bring NHS patient concerns to the Commissioning Care Groups and the Patients Participation Groups. Community Voice led the campaign for the Cancer Centre to stay at Mount Vernon and for both Mount Vernon and Harefield Hospitals to stay open.

Cllr Carol Melvin was elected as a Hillingdon Councillor representing the Northwood ward in December 2008. She is now in her third term of office and has been a member on both Planning and Licensing Committees and a representative on Sacre, Hillingdon Interfaith Network and Resident's Environmental Group.
