Children in care councils

Step-Up, Stepping Out and Talkers are your children in care councils.

Step Up and Stepping Out

Step-Up and Stepping out meet once a month at the Civic Centre to try and make things easier and better for young people who are looked after by Hillingdon.

At these meetings we talk about our plans and work out how to make them happen.
Step up is for 12 to 15 year olds and Stepping Out is for 16 years and over and care leavers.

We regularly meet with managers in social services and councillors to discuss changes we would like to make. We also go on trips together including visiting other projects, the House of Commons and national consultation events.

If you would like to find out more about Step-Up or Stepping Out or to join as a member, come along to a meeting or contact Casey Matthews Tel: 07432 500 524 or Ani Chandarana Tel: 07925 639 549 or email: childrensrights@hillingdon.gov.uk.

Talkers is a group for young people in care aged 7 to 11 years, who meet on the first Friday of the month. The group do lots of activities together at their meetings including cake baking, ice skating and going out for meals as well as working together to make short films and posters to help make things better for children in care. The group are always looking for new members so if you are interested or know a young person who might be then please get in touch.
