Planning application fee changes take effect on 17 January 2018

Parliamentary approval has been given to legislation that will increase fees by 20 percent in England and introduce new categories in regard to applications for Permission in principle.

What are we doing to prepare for the change

We are currently working with the Planning Portal to ensure that the Planning Portal are able to implement the fee change when it takes effect.

Timeline

Details of the legislation's progress:

  • The draft legislation was laid before parliament and published online on 19 October 2017
  • The legislation was approved by parliament on 19 December 2017 (view Hansard record)
  • The legislation was signed in and was made on 20 December 2017.
  • Therefore the 28 day clock is ticking, and the changes will come into force on 17 January 2018. Please note that, at the time of writing the made legislation is yet to appear on the legislation website.

Please note: If you have a planning application currently going through the validation process and it is not validated before the 17 th January 2018 then the new planning application fee will be required.
