QCPR learner app

Your first aid training experience with Hillingdon Council will be enhanced with the latest app based technology which is linked to our CPR training manikins. This technology provides the candidate with live feedback on how effective their CPR is, including your score and tips for improvement.

Introduction of auto-injectors

We have introduced practical training and assessment in the recognition and treatment of anaphylaxis, including full training on how to use auto injectors correctly. E-certificates

We are pleased to announce the introduction of e-certificates for all of our First Aid qualifications. You'll no longer need to wait for your certificate to be delivered; it will be sent via email immediately after your results are processed. Rest assured that you'll never lose your certificate, as it will remain safely in your inbox where you can access it at any time. Take a look at the courses we offer below.

Core first aid courses

RQF First Aid at Work (FAW) - Level 3 award

Blended learningFace-to-face learning

Candidates will complete our innovative, online self-study e-learning (approximately 6 hours) before completing 2 trainer-led days in the classroom, learning and practising essential first aid skills, such as CPR. Candidates can complete the e-learning at their own pace in a comfortable environment.

Please note: The e-learning must be completed prior to the 2 classroom-based days. Once your booking has been confirmed, you will receive an email with information on how to log in and complete the e-learning.

The award is gained by various methods, activities, written test papers and practical assessments, based on the following units:

  • Unit1: Emergency first aid in the workplace
  • Recognition and management of illness and injury in the workplace

Re-qualification is mandatory every 3 years and attendance at an annual refresher is strongly recommended.

This is a 3-day course that will enable successful candidates to act as a first aider in the workplace.

The award is gained by various assessment methods, including activities, written test papers and practical assessments, which are based on the following 2 units:

  • Unit 1: Emergency first aid in the workplace
  • Unit 2: Recognition and management of illness and injury in the workplace

Re-qualification is mandatory every 3 years and attendance at an annual refresher is strongly recommended.


RQF First Aid at Work (FAW) Renewal - Level 3 award

Blended learningFace-to-face learning

Candidates will complete our innovative, online self-study e-Learning (approx 6 hours) before completing 1 trainer-led day in the classroom, learning and practising essential first aid skills, such as CPR. Candidates can complete the e-learning at their own pace in a comfortable environment.

The award is gained by various methods, activities, written test papers and practical assessments, based on the following units:

  • Unit 1: Emergency First Aid in the Workplace
  • Unit 2: Recognition and Management of Illness and Injury in the Workplace

Re-qualification is mandatory every 3 years by retaking the blended learning course.

Qualified first aiders are required to attend the 2-day renewal course (which revalidates the FAW course) within 3 years of their qualification date.

This is a 2-day course, enabling successful candidates to continue to act as a first aider in the workplace.

The award is gained by various assessment methods, including activities, written test papers and practical assessments, which are based on the following 2 units:

  • Unit 1: Emergency First Aid in the Workplace
  • Unit 2: Recognition and Management of Illness and Injury in the Workplace

Re-qualification is mandatory every 3 years and attendance at an annual refresher is strongly recommended.

To renew the qualification, you should book a renewal training course at least 6 months prior to the certificate expiry date to ensure you can reserve a place. Proof of a current certificate must be provided on the 1st day of the course (photocopies are not accepted as proof).

If the qualification expires and you need to continue with the qualification, you must attend the FAW 3-day course again.


RQF Paediatric First Aid (PFA) - Level 3 award

Blended learningFace-to-face learning

Candidates will complete our innovative, online self-study e-learning (approximately 6 hours) before completing 1 trainer-led day in the classroom, learning and practising essential first aid skills, such as CPR. Candidates can complete the e-learning at their own pace in a comfortable environment.

Re-qualification is mandatory every 3 years by retaking the blended learning course.

This is a 2-day course, enabling successful candidates to act as a first aider within childcare settings. Successful candidates will be awarded a certificate, which is valid for 3 years and meets the requirements laid down by OFSTED, NCMA, Sure Start and EYFS.

The course is subject to ongoing assessment by the trainer throughout the course and consists of written test papers and practical assessments, which are based on the following 2 units:

  • Unit 1: Emergency Paediatric First Aid
  • Unit 2: Managing Paediatric Illness, Injuries and Emergencies

Re-qualification is mandatory every 3 years by retaking the 2-day course.

RQF Emergency First Aid at Work (EFAW) - Level 3 award

This is a 1-day course, enabling successful candidates to act as a first aider in the workplace.

The award is gained by various assessment methods, including activities, written test papers and practical assessments based on the following unit:

  • Unit 1: Emergency first aid in the workplace

Re-qualification is mandatory every 3 years by retaking the 1-day course.

First aid annual refresher training

The HSE strongly recommend that anyone with a current first aid qualification (FAW and EFAW) attend a half-day basic skills refresher course annually to avoid skills fade.

RQF Emergency Paediatric First Aid (EPFA) - Level 3 award

A 1-day course, enabling successful candidates to act as an emergency first aider within childcare settings. The course is suitable for those who have gained a level 2 or 3 childcare qualification and have entered into an early years setting and wish to be included in the staff to child ratios to comply with the EYFS requirements.

The course is subject to ongoing assessment by the trainer throughout the course and consists of written test papers and practical assessments based on the following unit:

  • Unit 1: Emergency paediatric first aid

Re-qualification is mandatory every 3 years by retaking the 1-day course.

Emergency First Aid for Schools (FA4S)

A 1-day first aid course aimed at those working in a school environment. The course covers both adult and child information. The award is gained by various assessment methods, including practical activities and oral questioning. The course syllabus is similar to the Emergency First Aid at Work course and also includes dealing with anaphylaxis and asthma.

Re-qualification is mandatory every 3 years by retaking the 1-day course.

Automated External Defibrillators (AED)

This half day session is designed to equip qualified first aiders with the necessary skills to build confidence when administering first aid. The session includes basic resuscitation and the use of an AED when dealing with sudden cardiac arrest.
