Carers' recognition scheme

Nominate the carer in your life to let them know how much they are appreciated. Certificates will be presented at a celebration evening in July to thank all the carers nominated.

Carers recognition scheme 2016

Carers make a huge difference to our community by bringing, not only their time, but their energy, skills and individuality to everything they do.

The council's Carers' Recognition Scheme is now open for nominations
The scheme aims to:

  • thank carers for the work they do
  • celebrate the valuable contribution they make
  • raise the profile of the caring role
  • acknowledge the important role that schools have in supporting young carers

Closing date for nominations is Friday 16 June 2017.

The challenges faced by unpaid carers take many forms and they will often juggle their caring responsibilities with work, study and other family commitments. Some - in particular younger carers - are not known to be carers. They don't tell relatives, friends or health/care professionals about their responsibilities because of fear of separation, guilt, pride or other reasons.

Hillingdon's Carers' Champion, Cllr Becky Haggar, is inviting you to nominate an unpaid carer (regardless of whether they currently receive support from the council), or a school that supports our young carers, to be recognised for the work they do.

An unpaid carer is someone who looks after a friend or family member who, due to illness, disability, a mental health issue or addiction, cannot cope without their support. This does not include paid professional care workers.

Carers' recognition event Every nominated carer will be invited to an event in July 2017, along with the person who nominated them and the person they care for (if these are different people). Each school nominated will also be invited to send a representative to the event.
The event will include the presentation of a framed certificate by the Carers' Champion for everyone who is nominated, food and drink and the opportunity to win in a free prize draw.

  1. Separate nomination forms must be completed for each nominee
  2. Professional care workers cannot be nominated.
  3. Nominations must be received by Friday 16 June 2017.
