Young people employment support and training

Local support, information and guidance for young people who are not engaging, or at risk of disengaging, from education employment or training.

Jobcentre Plus (JCP)

Jobcentre Plus provides employment support and training to 18+ who are in receipt of benefits.

Training and employment support programmes

A range of local providers and programmes are available to assist young people not in education employment or training. JCP, the council and other agencies are able to refer, or young people and their parents are able to contact the providers directly.

Free employability programme

New free employability programmes to support different needs - funded by the European Social Fund.

Other employment support

  • Futurepath is delivering a holistic people-centred employment support project. The project which is know as SYLO (Sort Your Life Out) aims to support unemployed Care Leavers aged 18 to 24 into sustained paid work. Note all referrals have to be made via the council's Care Leavers Team or JCP.
  • Princes Trust: Uxbridge College delivers the Prince's Trust Team Programme and some access to further education courses.
  • Asphaleia provides training, alternative learning opportunities, specialist support for children and young people and they have a local Centre in Uxbridge.  

  • Heathrow Academy provides pre-employment training and support to gain employment at Heathrow Airport within retail, construction, aviation and logistics.

  • Hillingdon Adult and Community Learning (HACL) now offer traineeships and apprenticeships. Traineeships are free to young people aged 16 to 24 (25 for young adults with learning difficulties or disabilities).
    For those who wish to earn while they learn, HACL's range of apprenticeships enable young people to combine work with studying for nationally recognised qualifications.

  • Auto training centre provides support, education and training in motor mechanics and road user education for a better future.

  • YMCA - Hayes provides a range of support and activities aimed at young people from their premises in Hayes.  

  • Traineeships is a new programme for young people who want to work, but need extra help to gain an apprenticeship or job. Traineeships offer an opportunity to undertake a substantial work placement and work skills training alongside support to improve English and maths.
