Accessibility items for visually impaired residents
Thanks to funding from the Ulverscroft Foundation and The Reading Agency, new accessibility equipment for people who are blind and partially sighted is now available to borrow from some of our libraries.
Items available
Talking tin - designed to help identify the contents of tinned food and various other household products. Simply record a message by speaking into the talking tins speaker, attach it to a tin of food, bottle or household spray and press the play button to hear your recorded message.
LED pocket magnifier - choose from 3 colours - clear yellow or orange - to suit your vision. The unique step-up power converter produces a constant bright illumination during the whole lifetime of the battery.
Multi memo recording device - a recording device that is ideal for speaking and listening activities, and great for capturing a message when writing it may prove difficult. The device records and plays back multiple messages, with a total recording capacity of 6 minutes.
Pen friend - easy-to-use labelling device lets you record your own voice to sticky labels for attaching to a wide range of items in and around the home, at school and at work. Label your spice jars, your CD or vinyl collection, clothing and beauty products, plant seeds packets and more.
Blindshell beep - find personal objects, such as keys, bags and wallets. Simply place the beeper on the object and use the Blindshell phone to ring the beeper in case of need.
