New payment system comes to Uxbridge town centre car parks

Monday 2 October, 2023: Visitors and residents in Uxbridge are being advised to look out for changes on how you pay for parking in two of Hillingdon Council's town centre car parks.

From Tuesday 10 October 2023 you will have to pay for your parking in the Grainges and Cedars multi-storey car parks by using either our new digital platform PayByPhone via your mobile phone or smart device or by using a pay and display machine.

The current 'pay on foot' system, where you get a ticket from a barrier entry to the car park is being replaced in favour of a more flexible system that offers motorists the opportunity to pay 'on the go' with the PayByPhone app or use the more traditional pay and display machines for those who would prefer to continue to use cash or their bank card.

Signs for the new payment systems have been installed around the car parks to support visitors make the switchover and at both car parks the barriers will be removed as the new systems will not require them for entry and exit.

The change comes as the council has this summer provided an additional method to pay for parking by introducing PayByPhone across its car parks as part of its ambitions to adopt more digital technologies that reflect the modern way residents use council services.

Residents living in accommodation nearby and above the two car parks who may also use them occasionally will also need to switch to the new payment system.

Blue Badge holders will no longer need to register for an entry/exit card, but will need to display their badge on the dashboard as they would in other borough car parks.

Cllr Eddie Lavery, Hillingdon Council's Cabinet Member for Residents' Services, said: "We're committed to being a modern, digitally-enabled council and making this switch brings these car parks in line with the rest of the borough.

"We understand not all residents will want to use the PayByPhone system which is why we've ensured they still have an option to pay by cash or card too.

"Please look out for the signs once the switchover happens for how to pay and where the new machines will be, and remember to either purchase a ticket at a machine and display this in your vehicle or buy a session through the PayByPhone app on your mobile phone."

If you are a regular user of these car parks and would like to obtain a virtual season ticket permit, please visit www.hillingdon.gov.uk/parking-permits.

The council's parking enforcement officers will be proactively patrolling the car parks following the switchover and both locations may be locked overnight.
