Celebrating National Smile Month in Hayes
Monday 12 May 2025: Hillingdon Council is inviting residents with babies and young children to attend a series of events in Hayes, promoting good oral health and wellbeing, to celebrate National Smile Month which starts today (Monday 12 May).

To help raise awareness about the benefits of daily cleaning routines, a healthy diet and sensible swaps families can make to improve their oral health, the council's libraries, children's centres and family hubs have organised a programme of events and workshops.
The series of events includes outdoor games and activities for children up to the age of seven in Pinkwell Park on Wednesday 28 May from 10am, an online 'brushathon' on Monday 2 June at 10am, a special dental health themed story time at Botwell Green Library on Wednesday 4 June at 10.30am, and a fun brushing event for children aged up to five at Charville Children's Centre on Monday 16 June at 10am.
Parents and carers will be given tips and advice on how to protect their children's teeth and keep them healthy, including brushing twice a day with fluoride toothpaste for two minutes; encouraging them to spit, not rinse, to keep fluoride working; choosing milk or water over sugary drinks and visiting the dentist regularly.
Cllr Jane Palmer, Hillingdon Council's Cabinet Member for Health and Social Care, said: "It's important to look after your child's teeth and book their first visit with a dentist as soon as their baby teeth start to come through.
"Our children's centres and family hubs run regular dental health and wellbeing workshops and have a wealth of resources available to support you in keeping your child's teeth healthy."
