Council's investment programme delivers new outdoor gym in Uxbridge
Monday 14 July 2025: The outdoor gym at Fassnidge Park in Uxbridge was formally reopened this week following a refurbishment by Hillingdon Council as part of its £1 million park enhancement programme to mark the borough's Diamond Jubilee.

The council invested in 13 new items of exercise equipment after the old gym - a legacy to mark the 2012 London Olympic games, had become no longer fit for purpose and beyond economical repair.
The facility has been given a new surface and includes apparatus for calisthenics (body weight exercises) with pull-up bars, balance beams, stepping pods, as well as a vertical climbing net and wall unit, cross trainer, arm bike, exercise bike and two large cross-training units.
The council's park enhancement programme focused on five parks for 2024/25, including Barra Hall Park, Hayes; Bessingby Park, Ruislip Manor; Churchfield Gardens, Ruislip; The Closes, West Drayton and Fassnidge Park, Uxbridge. Improvements varied across each site and included resurfacing of the car park in Barra Hall Park, resurfacing of the paths in Churchfield Gardens and named entrance arches at The Closes.
For 2025/26, five more parks will receive a share of £1 million investment, including Ruislip Lido; Willow Tree Open Space, Yeading; Little Britain, Cowley; Pole Hill Open Space, Uxbridge; and Shenley Park, Ruislip Manor.
New table tennis tables have also been installed in the park and the surface of the ball courts has been repainted.
Other recently completed improvements from the programme include a new, bespoke seated planter in Churchfield Gardens and its tennis courts have been repainted, just in time for Wimbledon.
Cllr Lavery said: "Our parks and green spaces are of the highest quality and offer residents and visitors a welcome break from the bustle of town centres but also are essential outlets for people looking to keep active.
"This new equipment is free and easy to use, so we're ensuring that everyone has opportunity to access facilities to support their health and wellbeing."
