Name a Street Sweeper Competition - terms and conditions
This Competition is being run by the London Borough of Hillingdon's Waste Services Department. By entering this Competition, the Entrant, or, if the Entrant is under 16, their parent, carer or legal guardian is agreeing to the following Terms and Conditions, which include publicity and photographs of the Winners.
- These terms and conditions ("Terms and Conditions") govern the London Borough of Hillingdon's Name a Street Sweeper Competition ("Competition"). Entrance into this Competition shall be considered acceptance by the entrant ("Entrant") to be bound to these Terms and Conditions. If there is any reason to believe that an Entrant is in breach of these Terms and Conditions, the Council may, at its sole discretion, reserve the right to exclude the Entrant from participating in the Competition.
- At all relevant times, the organiser is the London Borough of Hillingdon, whose registered office is at the Civic Centre, High Street, Uxbridge, UB8 1UW ("The Council").
- Only individuals residing within the London Borough of Hillingdon can enter the Competition. Each resident may only enter the Competition once. For the avoidance of doubt, submission by a parent, carer or legal guardian on behalf of a child under the age of 16 does not constitute a submission for that parent, carer, legal guardian, who can choose to enter the Competition once on their own behalf if they so wish.
- There is no minimum age to enter the Competition. However, an Entrant aged under 16 must have their parent, carer or legal guardian enter on their behalf and, by submitting the entry form, the parent, carer or legal guardian accepts the Terms and Conditions set out herein. The Council reserves the right to ensure that this protocol has been followed if a Winner under the age of 16 is selected, failing which the Council will be entitled, at its discretion, to select an alternative Winner.
- There is no entry fee, and no purchase required to enter this Competition. Details of the Competition, how to enter the Competition and its online entry form will be shared via a press release, web page and social media posts. The Council will not consider entrance into this Competition via any other means except via the Competition entry form. Once an entry is submitted, it cannot be withdrawn or amended. The Council reserves all rights to disqualify an Entrant if their conduct is contrary to the spirit or intention of the Competition. The Council will not engage in any further correspondence in relation to this Competition.
- The Competition will run from Friday 18 July 2025 ("Opening Date") until 11.59pm on Friday 1 August 2025 ("Closing Date"). The Council will not accept responsibility for any entries not received by the Closing Date whatever the reason may be for this. Any entries received after the Closing Date will be disqualified from the Competition.
- There will be 7 winners amongst the Entrants ("Winners"), each of whom will have their suggested sweeper name, which they inserted into the Competition entry form, printed onto one of the Council's 7 new road sweepers, and their photograph taken with the new sweepers ("the Prize").
- The Prize will be supplied by the Council and no alternatives or replacements shall be provided. The Prize may not be claimed by a third party on a Winner's behalf.
- The Prize is subject to availability and is non-transferable and non-negotiable and there are no cash alternatives. The Council reserves the right to substitute the Prize with one of equivalent value without notifying the Winners of the Competition.
- Please note that the Council's use of Prize(s) does not imply an affiliation with, or endorsement of, the chosen Prize(s) or their connected organisations.
- By entering the Competition, the Entrant understands, agrees and consents to have their photograph taken with the new sweepers and to this being published on other platforms if they are one of the Winners. Where an Entrant is under 16, the parent, carer or guardian who has submitted on their behalf understands, agrees and consents to have their Entrant child's photograph taken with the new sweepers and to this being published on other platforms if that child is one of the Winners. Intellectual property rights to said photograph shall remain with the Council.
- Events may occur that render the Competition itself or the awarding of the Prize impossible due to reasons beyond the Council's reasonable control and, accordingly, the Council may at its absolute discretion, vary or amend or cancel the Competition, or refuse to award the Prize to any one in breach of the Terms an d Conditions, and the Entrant agrees that the Council shall have no liability as a result thereof.
- The Winners will be selected after the Closing Date based upon judgment of the submitted sweeper names. Any entries with incomplete entry forms shall be disqualified from the Competition.
- All Competition entries will become the property of the Council upon submission and will not be returned. By entering the Competition, Entrants agree to assign to the Council all intellectual property rights in their suggested sweeper name with full title guarantee and waive all moral rights.
- The Winners will only be notified that they have won via an email sent to their email address, as inserted into the Competition entry form.
- If a Winner cannot be contacted or does not claim the Prize within 14 days of notification, the Council reserves the right to withdraw the Prize from that Winner and pick a replacement Winner without further notice. The Council does not accept any responsibility if an Entrant is not able to take up the Prize.
- The Winners are required to participate in reasonable publicity and photographs and, by entering this Competition, the Winners agree to this and consent to the publishing of their name in any public or promotional materials. Where a Winner is under 16, the parent, carer or guardian who has submitted on their behalf agrees and consents to the publishing of their winning child's name in any public or promotional materials. Intellectual property rights to such publicity and promotional materials shall remain with the Council.
- Any personal data relating to the Winners or any other Entrant will be used solely in accordance with current UK data protection legislation and will not be disclosed to third party without the Entrant's prior consent except as allowed for by law (see the Council's Privacy Policy).
- In so far as is permitted by law, the Council, its agents or distributors will not in any circumstances be responsible or liable to compensate a Winner or accept any liability for any loss, damage, personal injury or death occurring as a result of taking up the Prize except where it is caused by the negligence of the Council, its agents or distributors or that of their employees.
- The Council's decision in respect of all matters to do with the Competition will be final and no correspondence will be entered into with an Entrant except to notify Winners that they have won and to arrange with Winners the photograph element of the Prize.
- The Competition and these Terms and Conditions shall be governed by the law of England and Wales and the Courts of England and Wales shall have exclusive jurisdiction.
