Competition to name council's new street sweeping machines
Friday 18 July 2025: Hillingdon Council is asking residents to submit imaginative suggestions for its competition, which launched today (18 July), to name seven new street sweepers.

They will help the council continue to keep the borough's streets clean, while replacing older, less reliable vehicles, minimising disruption to the road cleaning schedules and making the service more sustainable.
Competition entries from all ages are welcome but must be submitted via www.hillingdon.gov.uk/name-a-sweeper.
Entries via other methods will not be considered. The chosen names will be displayed on the sweepers, and the winners will be invited to a special unveiling ceremony at the Civic Centre, Uxbridge this autumn. The competition closes on Friday 1 August.
Cllr Eddie Lavery, Hillingdon Council's Cabinet Member for Community and Environment, said: "Our crews and equipment, including street sweepers, are out in the community daily, carrying out general maintenance and upkeep, which is essential to keeping the borough clean and pleasant for residents and visitors.
"We're hoping that the competition will be a bit of fun and an interactive way for residents to get involved in naming the machines."
