Council hosts first Age-Friendly Festival this autumn

Thursday 18 September 2025: Hillingdon Council will be holding a new Age-Friendly Festival, a boroughwide celebration of older residents offering free activities, information, and support for older residents throughout October.

Age Friendly Festival
Replacing the annual Day of the Older Person - traditionally held at Uxbridge's Pavilions Shopping Centre - the festival programme includes a series of events hosted in libraries and community venues across Hillingdon, making it easier for more residents to take part.

Health fairs will be held at:

  • Ruislip Manor Library - Wednesday 1 October, 11am to 3pm
  • Uxbridge Library - Monday 20 October, 11am to 3pm
  • Botwell Green Library - Friday 24 October, 11am to 3pm
  • Heathrow Villages in St Mary's Church, Harmondsworth - Friday 10 October, 10am to 2pm

Each fair will feature stalls offering advice, music, arts and crafts, health checks and interactive health workshops, including taster sessions such as walking football.

Other events include a falls prevention talk at Botwell Green Library and a daytime disco at the Compass Theatre, Ickenham on Tuesday 28 October, while the Battle of Britain Bunker Exhibition and Visitor Centre will host a reminiscence event on Wednesday 15 October where there will be various objects on display, including ration books and typewriters.

Cllr Jane Palmer, Hillingdon Council's Cabinet Member for Health and Social Care, said: "This new format ensures older people in Hillingdon can access local events and activities in their local area as part of an improved and varied programme.

"Our older residents make a valuable contribution to their communities and our borough, and I'm delighted that we've been able to expand this annual event to offer more support and opportunities to help them stay healthy, active and independent."
