New care facility purchased to reduce costs and secure local provision

Friday 10 October 2025: Hillingdon Council has purchased a care home in West Drayton to help meet the growing demand for residential care and reduce the borough's reliance on costly private provision.

The Burroughs will be managed by The Hillingdon Care Company - the council-owned organisation established to deliver high quality care within the borough.

By bringing the home into local authority ownership, the council will be able to place more residents in need of residential care in its own facilities, reducing the need to purchase beds from private providers at higher costs and easing the financial burden on council taxpayers.

Demand for care home places in Hillingdon is rising sharply, putting pressure on both availability and affordability. This strategic acquisition will give the council greater control over capacity, ensure a sustainable supply of places for the future, and maintain high standards of care for local residents.

Previously operated by Care UK, the home was purchased following Cabinet approval in December and will be registered and inspected by the Care Quality Commission.

Cllr Jane Palmer, Hillingdon Council's Cabinet Member for Health and Social Care, said: "Bringing this care home into council ownership is a forward-thinking step that allows us to provide high quality, affordable care for our residents, right here in Hillingdon.

"It means families can stay closer together, and we can ensure the care delivered meets our high standards.

"By investing in our own provision, we're reducing reliance on external providers, driving down costs, and creating a more sustainable care system for the future."
