Council reaffirms position on Heathrow

Cllr Ian Edwards, Leader of Hillingdon Council, said: "The government's announcement is hugely disappointing. Any expansion of Heathrow will inevitably have a devastating impact on our residents and communities.    

"The Transport Secretary talks of 'blockers to builders', but the impact of proposals being put forward cannot be trivialised or rushed through without thorough scrutiny and challenge. The brutal reality is it will affect thousands of homes, local schools, businesses and whole communities will be destroyed. With thousands more set to suffer the effects of poorer air quality and noise pollution from new flight paths.   

"She talks of communities being able to have their say. Ours have been saying the same thing for 25 years - the government fails to listen.   

"The council remains fully committed to protecting residents and will use whatever means are available to continue to put them first."
