New play area for Yiewsley
Thursday 20 November 2025: Hillingdon Council has opened a new accessible playground in Yiewsley Recreation Ground, the first project to be delivered as part of a wider development scheme which will provide affordable homes and a new library.
The playground features the latest accessible equipment, including a variety of swings, such as me-to-you flat seat, cradle seat, harness-inclusive, and basket swings, alongside sensory play equipment, a treehouse-themed multi-play tower. New fencing, gates, and two picnic tables have also been installed.
The new play facility is part the development of the brownfield land at the former swimming pool (Otterfield Road) and Falling Lane sites, to create 95 much-needed 100 per cent affordable homes, an enhanced modern library and new community space.
The wider project will also include the creation of landscaped family gardens on the site of the old bowling green and planting of 30 native species of trees to enhance local biodiversity. Both will be delivered at a later stage.
Cllr Lavery, said: "It is brilliant to see the council's investment in Yiewsley helping transform this site with improved play amenities for local families and visitors and ultimately, we will create a new community hub that benefits everyone.
"We wanted local residents to enjoy the benefits of this new playground as soon as possible, which is why it was the first part of the project to be completed."
Meanwhile, at the Otterfield Road site, the foundations and groundworks are complete, and the frame of the building has been erected. The site team will now be moving on to making the structure weathertight.
Demolition of the former Yiewsley Library is due to begin at Falling Lane and once complete, work will focus on the foundations and other early construction preparation. While the enhanced library is being built the nearest alternative is nearby West Drayton, which has extended its opening hours.
