Monday 24 November 2025: Hillingdon Council has announced plans to extend its burial service for all faiths to seven days a week to reflect the requirements of the borough's diverse communities.

This change will come into effect from mid-January 2026, allowing residents to book burials at West Drayton Cemetery, Cherry Lane Cemetery, Hayes, and Breakspear Crematorium, Ruislip, on any weekdays, weekends or bank holidays, with the exception of Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and Boxing Day.

The decision was made following requests from residents which were backed by local councillors, including Colham and Cowley ward councillor, Shehryar Ahmad-Wallana.

To accommodate seasonal weather and ensure the safety and wellbeing of officers and funeral goers, the council will offer four services at weekends during the winter months (October to March) and six on weekends from April to September.

The extension to the bereavement service is designed to reflect the needs of all communities in Hillingdon, including the requirements of the Muslim faith.

Cllr Ahmad-Wallana said: "We are pleased with the council's decision to extend its burial services to seven days a week, and how quickly it responded to residents' requests, to ensure more people can access these services when they need them."

Cllr Eddie Lavery, Hillingdon Council's Cabinet Member for Community and Environment, said: "We're always seeking ways to enhance our services to deliver the best possible experience for residents.

"We hope this change gives families additional options to help with planning the burials of loved ones."

Fees for the revised service will be available on the council's website in due course.
