Come join the Jubilee party in Hillingdon

Monday 30 May 2022: The borough is readying itself for a festival of Platinum Jubilee celebrations and everyone is invited - with a host of fun events across the borough.

The party mood was officially established when the Mayor of Hillingdon, Cllr Becky Haggar, raised the Jubilee flag outside the Civic Centre in Uxbridge on Monday 16 May.

And to help residents get into the Jubilee spirit, the council is hosting a vast range of fun events - many of them free - running from now until the Jubilee bank holiday weekend to mark the celebration.

For some interactive fun, why not try the virtual reality Beacon Trail which is running right now in Uxbridge High Street? You'll need a smart phone to take part and look out for the trail signs in various town centre shops.

If you'd prefer to reminisce, there's a range of nostalgic events taking place at libraries across the borough. You can try your hand at crafting bunting, or a Jubilee themed quiz night. Or maybe craft some celebratory bunting. [And don't forget to pop into our special exhibition detailing Her Majesty's visits to the borough, on display now in Uxbridge Library.

For a unique setting to mark the occasion, visit the Battle of Britain Bunker and Visitor Centre from Saturday 28 May to Sunday 5 June to take part in Jubilee themed craft sessions in the 'mess hall'. Activities are suitable for all ages and free with entry to the Bunker. Check the website for full details.

On Thursday 2 June, from 2pm, a town crier will read a special proclamation in Uxbridge High Street. That evening, on the forecourt of the Civic Centre in Uxbridge, the Platinum Jubilee Beacon will be lit at 9.45pm to the backdrop of bagpipes, a trumpet and the Jubilate Choir, with music written specially for the event. Get there for 9.15pm to catch all the fun.

To facilitate this event, Uxbridge High Street will be closed from 4pm from Hillingdon Hill (St Andrew's Roundabout) to the junction with Vine Street. Vine Street will also be closed from the High Street to its junction with Cricket Field Road (mini-roundabout).

If you're not celebrating at one of the 100 street parties taking place across the borough on Sunday 5 June, then be sure to bring the family, friends and a picnic along to Fassnidge Park, Uxbridge, from 2pm and enjoy a live performance from The Candy Girls, singing an entertaining mix of classic and modern hit songs.

Cllr Susan O'Brien, Hillingdon Council Cabinet Member for Children, Families and Education, said: "We're so excited to be delivering such a brilliant range of activities and fun events, many of them free, to help residents mark this truly historic occasion.

"We'll join together in our communities to celebrate Her Majesty's remarkable reign and as a borough we'll bookmark it with a party that will make memories to last a lifetime."
