SEND Co-production Charter

Our charter puts children and families at the heart of everything we do.

We want co-production to be a standard way of working together with families and across agencies who support families, so that:

  • children, young people and their parents feel confident that their needs are being identified and met
  • that there are more opportunities for families to be involved in shaping services and support.

Our SEND Co-production Charter has been produced with young people, parents and professionals.

Key values of our charter

We have identified 5 values at the core of everything we do to improve outcomes for children, young people and their families.

  1. Value lived experience - Respect what children, young people and their families say and value it. Focus on the needs of children, young people and their families.
  2. Open and honest - Honest communication needs to happen regularly. Children, young people and their families should be encouraged and allowed to say what they think, and adults should help them to do this by actively listening.
  3. Responsive and accountable - Everyone needs to work together to do what has been agreed and do their role to the best of their ability.
Learn from mistakes and work together to improve.
  4. Do what matters - Everyone agrees how it is best to work together to support children and young people to be happy and successful in their lives. Make sure that everyone feels valued.
  5. Work together - Everyone agrees the priorities for the children and young people, and work together to implement these to a high standard.
