What is the Ultra Low Emission Zone?

The ULEZ initiative was introduced by the Mayor of London in 2019 to central London and expanded to include all areas within the North and South Circular Roads in 2021. The North Circular (A406) and South Circular (A205) roads are currently not in the zone.

The ULEZ operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, every day of the year, except Christmas Day (25 December).

If you drive anywhere within the ULEZ, including the expanded area from Tuesday 29 August 2023, and your vehicle does not meet the emission standards, you could face a daily charge of £12.50. This includes residents within the ULEZ. You will not be required to pay the ULEZ charge if you are parked inside the zone and don't drive.

Scrappage scheme

The Mayor of London has launched a new scrappage scheme providing financial assistance to help London residents scrap their vehicles if they do not meet ULEZ standards to prepare for the expansion of ULEZ across all London boroughs.

Check the TfL website to see if your vehicle is eligible, how much financial assistance you could receive and how to apply.
