Uxbridge vision

Reshaping and revitalising Uxbridge town centre

Uxbridge vision consultation

Following an extensive public engagement process including months of research and conversations with local people and stakeholders, we are now seeking your views on our proposals to see if we have captured everything in the draft vision document. We want to know if you agree with the issues, principles and strategic moves in the draft vision, if there is anything you do not agree with, and to understand the reasons why you feel this way.

Read the consultation and share your feedback

The consultation closes on Friday 28 February.

Uxbridge high street

In collaboration with the local community, the council has created a new vision for Uxbridge to ensure the high street and surrounding area continues to thrive by making it an even better place to live, work and do business.

The vision will help guide future development and attract investment to the area.

It will support the borough's new Local Plan and provide a clear, updated vision on how the town centre can be revitalised to help address the changing housing, shopping, office and leisure needs in the area.

The vision's aims include encouraging private sector investment, diversifying the shopping and leisure offer, redeveloping and repurposing disused sites, exploring the potential for new homes, and improving the connectivity of residential areas to the town centre, including St Andrew's Park.

The vision outlines a range of short and long-term projects and interventions to address issues that prevent residents and visitors from spending more time in the town centre. The council will work with partners to find creative solutions and apply for funding to help deliver larger projects

Building economic resilience

High vacancy of retail and commercial units. The town centre needs to adapt to meet changing economic needs and give people more reason to visit and spend time in Uxbridge.

  • Support the office market at the heart of the town centre.
  • Address gaps in the current offer, such as night-time activities, and experience-based commercial offers.

Serving local communities

The high street is dominated by chain retail and is less appealing to groups, such as students and those who do not drink alcohol. It needs to better serve residents' daily needs.

  • Establish the Civic Centre as a community hub and explore new ways to use the building and forecourt.
  • Provide new housing in the heart of the town centre and attract developers.
  • Work with Transport for London to remodel the bus interchange, creating a new public square.

Enhancing the environment

Provide more options to travel to and from the town centre, expanding connections to surrounding greenspaces and improve public spaces and increase accessibility.

  • Improve walking, bus and cycling routes.
  • Restore connections to the canal, local parks and other sites, such as the Battle of Britain Bunker Exhibition and Visitor Centre.
