Prevention

What's good for the heart is good for the head so ensuring that we make healthy choices will help keep our brains healthier for longer.

There's no certain way to prevent all types of dementia, as researchers are still investigating how the condition develops. However, there's good evidence that a healthy lifestyle can help reduce your risk of developing dementia when you're older.

A few ways to help can be:

  • keeping active
  • eating healthily
  • and exercising your mind.

Keeping active

  • Walking
There are lots of great walks in our borough to help you discover, explore and enjoy some of our beautiful parks and green spaces and historic sites.
  • Strength and Balance Exercise Programme
These sessions are designed to help residents stay strong and are aimed at anyone who would like to feel steadier on their feet, retain their mobility and/or reduce their risk of falling.
  • Walking football
Join us for this popular sport, which is played on a smaller pitch and involves no running. All sessions free to attend.
  • Dances
