Meals service

The meals service helps people to live independently in their own homes, by delivering fresh and frozen meals when they can no longer cook their own.


Apetito manage the meals service on behalf of the London Borough of Hillingdon. Each driver and delivery person has an identity card, which you should ask to see if you do not know the person delivering your meal. We urge you not to invite strangers into your home.


You can have hot meals delivered to you on weekdays and at weekends.

Menus are given to you outlining the available meal choices which you need to order in advance. If you have special dietary needs, you will need a supporting letter from your doctor or dietician.

You can have a two-course lunchtime meal which are designed to cater for a range of dietary requirements, include:

  • European
  • Asian-Vegetarian
  • Afro-Caribbean
  • Kosher
  • Halal
  • Diabetic
  • salads and other cold options
  • soft and pureed meals

We strongly recommend you eat your meal when it is delivered. You are advised not to reheat the meal.

It is helpful if you could let us know if you are going out as your meal will only be delivered if you are at home to receive it. If you are not at not home and we are expecting you to be there, the delivery person will ask their office to check you are alright.

Delivery times

We aim to deliver meals between 11.45am and 2pm.

We cannot guarantee your meal will arrive exactly the same time each day. Sometimes we may be delayed due to unforeseen circumstances or traffic.

Cancelling a meal

If you wish to cancel a meal you should let your delivery person know (or ask someone else to let us know) in advance or telephone the Apetito office as soon as you know on 01895 556633. 

To restart the meals, telephone the Apetito office or ask your carer to arrange for your meals to restart.

Applying for the meals service

You can contact Social Care Direct on 01895 556633 who will arrange to assess your needs to determine whether you meet the eligibility criteria.


There is a charge for all meals. Current charges are available from the Apetito office

Where we deliver frozen meals to you at home, you should pay on delivery. Cheques should be made payable to Fresh Apetito.

For hot meals you usually pay for meals at the beginning of the week in advance.

You can pay by

  • cash
  • cheque once a week or
  • by setting up a Direct Debit via the Apetito Head Office (01225 753636 accounts department)

It is helpful if you can have your payment ready when your meal is delivered. Otherwise, you or your appointed agent can be invoiced on a monthly basis.


If you are not satisfied with your meal or service you should telephone the Apetito office or speak to your delivery person.

If your complaint is about the meal itself, it helps if you return your meal's lid to your delivery person so we can use the code on the lid to follow up with our supplier.
